The Tufts Lawyers Association Public Interest and Social Justice Committee hosted a Zoom webinar on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, for an in-depth discussion of election law, voting rights, and the psychology of voter behavior. Topics included the nuances and challenges of navigating the voting process; factors that determine what party people vote for; how lawyers and everyday citizens can get involved and protect democracy; and what the future looks like as it relates to the voting process.
The panelists were:
Deborah Schildkraut, Professor of Political Science at Tufts University, where she studies the relationship between American public opinion and the changing ethnic composition of the United States
Matthew Shapanka, A09 - Special Counsel at the Covington & Burling law firm in Washington, D.C., where he advises clients across a range of industries on important legislative, regulatory, and enforcement matters before Congress, state legislatures, and government agencies.
Debbie Cooper, J82 - Human and civil rights and international development leader, and lawyer, with a focus on voting rights and elections, democracy and the rule of law, and immigration, and their intersection with both racial and criminal justice.
